Abraham Lincoln Cabin

When you enter the historical park, you’ll see a memorial building at the top of a hill. As you make your climb up the short stairway, you should notice the number of stairs that are present on the path: 56. One step represents one year in the dear president’s life.

You’ll notice some of the famous quotes from Lincoln on the building. Swing open the doors, and you’ll see the humble cottage representing where Lincoln was born. It’s remarkable to see how a prominent figure in American culture was born in such a seemingly insignificant place.

You’ll get to walk around the building for a bit before exiting out the other side of the memorial.

Lincoln Museum

After you’ve gotten a gander at the cabin, you should head to the Lincoln Museum on the property! The museum’s opening hours are the same as the park in general, so if you’re in the park, it’s open.

I
nside, you’ll have the chance to learn about Lincoln’s story. You’ll read about his birth, childhood, political career, and legacy in these exhibits. The film Abraham Lincoln: The Kentucky Years, delves into these stages of his life in a visual way, which may be more digestible for families with children. You’ll also get a taste of what life on the plains was like during the 19th century.

Sinking Spring

The Lincoln family had a farm above a sinking spring. You can see the spring today by making a descent down the long stairway, where you’ll see the sinkhole and the water source. It’s pretty fun, and a good little walk!

Unfortunately, it’s not handicap accessible!
